Capital on Tap Refer a Friend: 7,500 points each, and the monthly and lifetime caps explained

By Chris ·

The current Refer a Friend terms pay 7,500 points (or £75) to both sides, cap referrers at 10 bonuses a month and 100 in total, and set a 30-day first-transaction rule. Here is what changed on 29 April 2025 and why the caps matter.

This site earns a referral bonus when a reader applies for Capital on Tap through our link or code, so we have an obvious interest in the Refer a Friend terms. That is a reason to explain them precisely rather than loosely. Here is what the current terms say, how they differ from the version most older blog posts still describe, and what the caps mean in practice.

What the current terms pay

  • 7,500 points to the referrer, or £75 if they choose to apply it to their balance. The referred business receives the same bonus.
  • The referred business must be a brand-new customer, UK-based, with no CCJs and a minimum £24,000 annual turnover, and must be approved. Capital on Tap will not discuss the outcome of anyone else's application.
  • The new customer has to make a transaction within 30 days of activating the card. A card purchase or drawing down funds both count.
  • Both bonuses arrive within one month of that first transaction.

What changed on 29 April 2025

The previous terms, dated 9 February 2021, paid a flat £75 per referral with no points option, no monthly limit and no lifetime limit. The 2025 rewrite introduced the 7,500-point option, a cap of ten bonus payouts per calendar month, a lifetime cap of 100 bonuses, and a note that Pro members may be offered a higher bonus shown in their portal. It also added the 30-day first-transaction window and an explicit warning that bonuses can be lost if the referrer falls behind on payments.

Why the caps matter

Ten a month and 100 in total is generous for most cardholders and irrelevant to the person being referred: your bonus is not affected by how many people we have referred, unless we have hit the lifetime cap, at which point neither side is paid. We track our count on an internal dashboard and will remove the referral link from this site if we reach it, because sending you through a link that no longer pays would be pointless for both of us. The how we make money page explains this in full.

Common reasons a bonus does not arrive

  • The application did not go through the link or code. Capital on Tap only pays when the referral is recorded at application.
  • The business already had a Capital on Tap credit or e-money agreement, even a closed one.
  • No transaction within 30 days of activation.
  • The referrer's account is suspended or in arrears when the bonus is due.

The full walkthrough, including where the code goes on the application form and what to do if a bonus is late, is on the Capital on Tap referral code page. If you are not sure you qualify, the eligibility checker takes a minute and stores nothing.
